Carpe Diem Anno 2025

DEMOLITION CARPE DIEM

In September 2024, we began a major renovation of our beloved home on Ameland. It was a special, emotional step, because before the renovations actually began, we emptied the house and made it available for a fire drill. It was a final moment of precious memories for us and a valuable experience for the fire department, but it was also difficult to say goodbye to the old house that held so many stories.

In Harmony with Nature

Newly built, with the atmosphere of that time

After the old house was demolished, construction of the new one quickly took shape. The foundation was laid, and the outlines of our new home slowly began to appear on the horizon. It was a special and exciting moment: the foundation for something new had been laid. It quickly became clear that the house would still fit perfectly into the Ameland landscape.

We largely finished and furnished the house ourselves. After many hours of painting, varnishing, and putting together the interior, it was finally time to start on the garden. That was a fantastic phase: the moment when everything truly came together and the house took on its final character.

Although it was sometimes difficult to temporarily view the once-natural garden as a construction site, everything is now coming back to life. The contours are visible, the grass is growing again, and upon entering, a beautiful, natural dune welcomes us. This way, we not only have our privacy back, but also retain that wonderful feeling of space and freedom.

Interior – Peace, space and an island feeling

Please note: The photos are from the interior designer's design phase. They are for illustrative purposes only and may differ from the final result.

For the interior of Carpe Diem, we deliberately opted for tranquility and a natural look. The thoughtful design brings together comfort, ambiance, and an island feel in every room. Light colors, soft materials, and natural accents like wood and linen create a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Thanks to the large windows, daylight flows abundantly, maintaining a constant connection to the outdoors. The open-plan kitchen/diner is the heart of the home and connects directly to the terrace, dining room, and cozy sitting area with a great view of the garden. The layout and furnishings combine functionality and coziness: from clever storage to carefully selected furniture that contributes to that holiday feeling. The interior designs offer a preview of the bright, homely atmosphere of Carpe Diem.

Despite the major changes, the house has remained what it always was: a place of tranquility, surrounded by nature, where you can enjoy everything Ameland has to offer. We're really looking forward to reopening the house to our guests in 2026!
